Bowfinger
Reviewed by: JenT99
After all the hype, I expected "Bowfinger" to be one of the funniest
movies of the year, especially since it stars top comedians Steve Martin and
Eddy Murphy. Unfortunately, "Bowfinger" lacked in plot and character
development, knocking it down to a mediocre level.
"Bowfinger"'s hot cast included Steve Martin, Eddy Murphy, and Heather
Graham. The plot was humorous, but in a trite sort of way (and it was no
where NEAR realistic, or even believable). Steve Martin plays Bowfinger, a
washed up movie producer still struggling to make it big. He finally finds a
great script, "Chubby Rain" (come on, isn't that just the lamest title? I
mean, would YOU want to see a movie named "Chubby Rain"?) written by his
accountant. Determined to finally produce a Blockbuster, he tries (and tries
and tries) to book action super-star Kit Ramsey (Eddy Murphy) in the lead
role. On his quest, Bowfinger enlists the help of a hodge-podge group of
actors and crew members, and the story moves on from there.
The character development was shallow and crude, relying primarily on
stereotypes of the Hollywood world. The super-star was a mental health
patient, the young aspiring actress was a general slut, the aging actress was
silly and desparate, the producer was a kiss-up... none of the characters had
any unique personality traits.
In short, Bowfinger was a bit of a disappointment. I'm not saying it was
actually bad; it DID have its funny points... but next time, please, we don't
want to see ALL the funniest jokes in the previews.
