Rinoa Heartilly is the daughter to a wealthy man who works for the Galbadian government. She has many disagreements with him and his values and chose to flee from him and join the Forest Owl resistance group. The Forest Owl group is a group that specifically rebels against the Galbadian government and army. While a member of the Forest Owl resistance, she learned most of her skills as a leader and a fighter. Quickly, she rose to lead the group on many attacks against Galbadia and earned the trust of Zone & Watts, the two strategists of the Forest Owls.

The Forest Owls soon gained the favor of SeeD and the Gardens that train SeeD candidates. Both groups stood against Galbadia and the Forest Owls took advantage of this agreement of opinions and asked SeeD for assistance in hijacking a delivery from Galbadia. Here she meets the SeeD members from Balamb Garden. Quistis Trepe, Selphie Tilmitt, Zell Dincht and, of course, Squall Leonhart.

Rinoa had already shared a unique relationship with members of the Balamb Garden. She had already known Seifer Almasy and the two had actually had a extended relationship with each other. However, the two grew apart and she eventually met Squall at the SeeD graduation ceremony. Throughout the entire game, Rinoa keeps on pushing at Squall to get him to trust her. The two grow close together as the story progresses and besides being the main love interest, they also share a common past (which I'm not sharing). Rinoa is the only person in the story that Squall fully trusts (and also the only person who he smiles to).

Rinoa's relationship with the other SeeD members is fairly simple, they each trust her because she is the leader of the Forest Owls. Selphie, having her bubbly personality, quickly becomes friends with Rinoa. Quistis holds Rinoa in contempt because of her feelings for Squall, but those slowly subside and she too befriends Rinoa. Zell becomes good friends with Rinoa. The two become partners in crime, Zell steals Squall's signet lion necklace so that Rinoa can copy it. She later wears a similar necklace with a ring strung to it. Irvine is just who he is, the mack-daddy, the ladies man. Too bad Rinoa's not interested in him.

Now, why'd I choose Rinoa Heartilly? I really have no idea. Her personality is extremely easy to relate to as she is very open and friendly, like a friend should be. She's an okay fighter. I guess the only reason I picked her is because I really liked the game, and because she's pretty. Okay...I said it! Rinoa's a hottie! Kay? LEAVE ME ALONE....
