Overplayed Music?

The other day when I was listening to the radio, one of the local radio stations was playing Ricky Martin's first American hit, “Livin' La Vida Loca”. So, since I actually enjoyed the song, I decided to keep on listening until the end. This is where the twist came in, no DJ came on, just a commercial announcing the radio station, “You are listening to KQMQ.” Then, without warning, “Livin' La Vida Loca” started playing again. Okay, this was a bit odd, I changed stations then went back later. The song ended, a commercial, and Livin' La Vida Loca. The same cycle repeated it four times before I got out of the car.
I met a friend of mine at the shopping center and she needed to take care of some stuff. After an hour, we went back to her car and went to go get dinner. On another station, that really annoying Christian Aguilera song, “Genie in a Bottle” came on. We switched back to KQMQ and guess what was playing... “Livin' La Vida Loca”. I pointed this out to my friend and she said that maybe they were playing it again. I said, that we should wait and see what happens. Sure enough, it started the same horrendous circle.
After dinner, we got back into the car, and tried it again. “Livin' La Vida Loca” simply would not go away. By this time it's been almost two and a half hours. Let's just say that I don't like that song nearly as much as I used to.
My point of this story is I think that too much music is overplayed and it kills every single good song. There are a lot of songs that fall into this category, MTV plays them too much, as do local radio stations. Here's a “short” list of some titles that have been sentenced to death after being overplayed.

Backstreet Boys - Everybody
N Sync - God Must have Spent a Little More Time on You
Britney Spears - ...Baby One More Time
The Offspring - Pretty Fly
Backstreet Boys - I Want it that Way
N Sync - Tearin' Up My Heart
Christina Aguilera - Genie in a Bottle
Hanson - Mmmbop (This song just sucks)
Madonna - Beautiful Stranger
N Sync - I Want You Back
Backstreet Boys - As Long As You Love Me
Britney Spears - Sometimes
Ricky Martin - Livin' La Vida Loca
Brandy & Monica - The Boy is Mine
Will Smith f/ Dru Hill & Kool Mo Dee - Wild Wild West
Lenny Kravitz - Fly Away
Sugar Ray - Every Morning
Jordan Knight - Give it to You
Kid Rock - Bawitdaba
Enrique Iglesias - Bailamos
Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On
TLC - No Scrubs
Destiny's Child - Bills Bills Bills
Eminem - My Name Is
Tyrese - Sweet Lady
Sixpence None the Richer - Kiss Me
Vengaboys - We Like to Party

You might notice the most common people on that list were The Backstreet Boys, N Sync and Britney Spears. This is due to the sudden rush of the teenie-boppers and the boy bands. There are far too many obsessive teenagers out there who fantasize and dream about stardom. I hate to be the one to break it to them, but it's not an easy life, sure it's great money, but you have to train intensively to last a few years on average.
The only way to actually succeed is to get an education and to get a job. So enjoy the music, just please don't get all obsessive. It's really sickening that our generations is sinking to that level.
Also, people need to expand their music horizons more. Me, for instance, I listen to anything except mainstream country. This includes all the “clashing” genres; Rap, Alternative, R&B, Heavy Metal, Hip-Hop, Techno, Classical, Pop, House, J-Pop right on down to Showtunes.
People shouldn't be separated by music taste, personally, I like R&B & Hip-Hop the most, but would you hate me for not liking a little Smash Mouth? It just doesn't make sense.
