FAQ

Inspired by a friend's creation of a personally written FAQ. He wrote and answered his own FAQ. So I figured...why not...I'm bored enough...so here goes!

Who are you?
Christopher Soong Yee. What more can I say? I'm me. (duh).

How the devil are you?
Hmm...good good. Life is always what it is. And mine has it's ups and downs...but things are doing okay. Been busy, so that's good.

You've been busy huh...whatcha been up to?
Well, seeing as this is the end of Spring Break '00, I've been busy every single day of the break. Been to movies, plays, parties, games...what ever...I've just been busy.

What movies did you see?
I went to see Romeo Must Die on Monday and The Skulls on Friday. Romeo Must Die was pretty cool, it was plenty fun. The Skulls was okay, I wasn't inclined to go, but I had no reasons not to. Oh, I also watched the Highlander Trilogy with Ryan the second night of break. That was...interesting.

What play?
Fame. That show just blew me away. Go see it if you get the chance. The audience was wowed. We were awestruck. I loved it. Go see it.

Anything else?
Hmm...I played pool the last couple of days. That was fun. Annoyed me when I played 8 ball with Kyle. I scratched the 8 ball 5 games in a row.

What are you doing as of the moment?
Well, it's Sunday night...the last night of break. I'm relaxing...listening to classical music. Yes...I enjoy classical music. Later I'll go to sleep listening to the radio.

Speaking of music, what exactly do you listen to?
Well...that's an interesting question. Just think of the world of music. You've got your classical music. You've got your American country music. There's a million and one different genres of music. And believe it or not...I've listened to a great deal of it. But if you're just into my favorite genres of music. I have a few that I specifically like to listen to. Recently I've enjoyed listening to Techno. You know...the kinds of stuff they play at raves (yes I go to raves). I like most of the stuff they play there. I'm not too into trance though...it's a little too...mellow. I like the faster stuff. I've also begun to listen to a lot more Pop music. Not 80s Pop like Michael Jackson. But more the stuff like Backstreet Boys, N*Sync, Christina Aguilera, Hoku...and the like. I just like to sing to that kind of music for some reason. I love R&B (Blackstreet, Aaliyah, Dru Hill). Alternative Rock is good too. I used to like Rap music, but not so much now. I think it's gotten kinda dumb. Only certain Rap songs can get me to listen now. Some DMX, Dr. Dre, 2Pac. I don't know...I can't stand...who is it...Juvenile. That song is sooo irritating. I love Ska, Jazz, Swing, Latin, Hawaiian & Japanese. Basically, it doesn't matter what genre it is, just as long as it sounds good.

Why such a diverse selection of music?
I just love music. I've been on a sort of quest. Recently, I've been cruising Hawaii for good music. Live music specifically. I had a great weekend once where I saw Go Jimmy Go (Ska), Punahou Jazz Band & the Honolulu Jazz & Swing Band on Friday and then went to see the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra featuring Wynton Marsalis. That was a great concert. Best damn Jazz musicians in the country.

You mentioned raves. What do you do there?
I just like to dance. At the UH raves I really like the bouncy castles and such. Despite almost breaking my neck in one. That's another story. I've also become obsessed with glowsticks. Ask any of my friends. I've gotten some of them hooked on it too. It's really fun, cool and trippy. Come see Ryan and I (attempt) it.

UH Raves huh?
Yeah, UH. They're at the UH Campus Center. The UH Ballroom to be more specific. Come to one. Actually, there's one on the 15th. For all you ppls that don't have anything to do after prom, here's something!

Well, to close up on music, what are your three favorite songs of all time?
Oh...I have no idea actually. I'll try to compose a list. It's different now, but I guess there's some songs that I'll never get tired of. I'd have to say...

Queen - Boheimian Rhapsody
This song...it's just...a classic. It's unique, pretty, crazy, sudden and just a great song.

Billy Joel - The Longest Time
I've loved this song since I was a little kid. There was this acapela group that sang it when I was in the 1st grade or something, I feel in love with it when I first heard it.

Boyz II Men - End of the Road
Hands down, the best Boyz II Men song ever. Love the group, love the song, love the message. It's just...great.

Apparantly, you're into computers. What do you do with them?
Well, first off...I do webpage design. Oh...that's right...this is for my page! It's a hobby I picked up as a seventh grader. It's opened up a few opportunities. I've been able to write for online companies, that was pretty fun. Recently, I've been thrown into a pool of professional webmasters to do the layout and support for a private law firm's website. I kinda stumbled upon it accidentally. I'd like to do it because then I'd be a 17 year old kid with a part time job that isn't counter work at a store. I'd actually be doing something that I enjoy. One of the definite pluses is that the average high price for a webpage is $7000. Now that kicks ass!

What else do you use the computer for?
School, I'm still a student. Music, I listen to music, I kinda compose my own stuff. Don't ask me to play it, it's kind of lame. Oh, I've done some things that are techno-ish. They're not so bad. I'm also totally into PC Games. That's something that eats up a bit too much of my time.

Okay, name your three favorite PC games.
Oh, this is pretty easy actually.

Blizzard Entertainment's StarCraft
Simpy the best strategy game out there. It's pure and simple. Fun.

Microsoft's Midtown Madness
I've always been a freak for racing games. I love this one because it was different. Rather than racing on a closed course, I was smashing a VW Beetle or cruising in a Greyhound bus in the Windy City of Chicago. Great game.

Valve Studio's Half-Life
This game is the best in just about everything. It's got superior AI to any game on the market. I diverse story line that gets the player involved. And an engine that allows for fast gameplay, interactive levels and superior graphics. Now the flip-side of the coin is that the multiplayer is just as flawless. It's fast, random, unexpected and you don't need a rocket launcer to win. It has also opened the doors to an entire cache of modifications. My favorite is Team Fortress Classic. Probably because I'm one of the better players on the entire WON.net. The other is Counter-Strike. A lot more difficult and intelligent than it's HL and TFC counter parts, a great MOD. I'm working on getting better at it.

You're still a student, what grade and what school do you attend?
I'm a Junior at Punahou School. It's in Hawaii, if you were wondering.

Give any thoughts to college yet?
Yes and no. Yes because I've had to at least formulate a small idea of where I want to go and what I want to do. I want to go to school in a few states, that's about the narrowest I've gotten. I definitly want to go to a west coast school. Simply because I'm a local kid and I crave semi-warmth.

What is it you want to do?
You mean like a major? Hell, I have no clue. It's kind of a toss up of how things work out my Senior year. I either want to do psychology, management of information systems (MIS, network managing, webmastering, etc.) or maybe music education.

That's kind of broad, don't you think?
Yeah, but the way I see it, I could conceivable become a special psychologist that uses music therapy to soothe the shot nerves of the typical computer manager.

Well, that's cute. I guess we'll stop here, and answer some more questions later.
Sure, I guess whenever I'm ready!

Editor's Note: Please don't assume that I have multiple personalities, well...as such. I don't really talk to myself, it's just a FAQ, and there's more to come. Thanks!
