Titan A.E.

Without a doubt, Don Bluth's best film has to be The Secret of Nymh. Bluth has re-entered the animation world with an extremely stunning, Titan A.E. Titan was extremely unique in the fact that it layed animated cells over computer generated CGs. It gives the gackdrops and accesories some room to look realistic and much more magnificent than a cartoonish space station. Also, the CGs, help greatly with lighting effects. The sunrise in the end is what CG artists all dream of.

The animations were average at best. Very simplistic, but effective. My two favorites were the Cook and (of course) Akima. Titan also had a great soundtrack that helped the movie flow during those (numerous) slow points.

Titan was able to get a great cast of actors to do voice characterization. Only Toy Story rivals the calibur. Each did a decent job of bringing life to the pictures despite the low quality dialogue.

Again, the script was something to be desired for. Also, a game can be played as to what movies certain scenes are being "borrowed" from. I counted Independence Day, Waterworld, The Matrix, Star Trek, Armageddon & Star Wars.

Overall, if you can sit through the previews (Rocky & Bullwinkle, Pokemon 2000, Thomas the Tank Engine), Titan is a fun movie filled with visual and audible candy. A decent film and enjoyable if you can sit through the cheese. Welcome back Don Bluth.

Scores for Titan A.E.
